Creators Need a “Bailout”

YouTube isn’t the world’s first television network that doesn’t pay its stars, producers, writers, or directors. Oh sure, they have some sort of nominal YouTube Partnership program where they link to Google AdSense but good luck with that. (YouTube is owned by Google.) Creators provide their programming for free.
Free YouTube videos have also spawned a new genre of “reality shows” featuring clips of people getting owned, failing, or putting Mentos in Diet Coke bottles. These are now a staple of programs on TruTV and the once-venerable A&E. Even Jay Leno on NBC uses internet clips. If YouTube creators are now as mainstream as TV, maybe it’s time to get them paid. Talented young Kirby Slager and I made this video appeal.
