“Google” Named “Word of the Decade” But Can’t “Party”

Loses Honor of “Word of the Past Two Centuries” to “Party”

“Google” was named “word of the decade”. A word is truly powerful… okay, not “powerful”, just cool…when it can be used as both a noun and a verb. I used “google” in the following manner:

  • “I met this awesome girl today. So that night I googled her. The next day I looked her up on the internet.”

You may have other uses for “google”, perhaps as an adjective, such as “wow, this turmeric and cardamom masala first used by the British in India in 1837 is so google.”

My favorite of the words with double duty fun, however, is easily “party”. Did it change society? Frankly, I think so. Here’s some expert analysis from “Wayne Campbell” on my series “It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll!” on CBC-Television in 1987.
